2014 Walk to School Day a Success

Sixty Kane County Schools participated in International Walk to School Day on October 8, 2014.  This marks the fifth year the Funders’ Consortium has sponsored Walk to School Day.  Thanks to our sponsors, Elgin Parks and Recreation and City of Aurora for their support.

Congratulations to our “Walk to School Champions”

The Fit for Kids Funders’ Consortium  has sponsored International Walk to School Day for five years.  The following elementary schools have participated all five years: Fabyan, Bell-Graham, Fox Ridge, Hampshire, Harrison, Heartland, Hoover Wood, JB Nelson, Mill Creek, Neubert, Parkview, Storm, Western, Westfield

Many schools have extended Walk to School Day

Walk to School Week with different events each day Walk to School Month with students tracking their walking and biking days for incentives Incentives can be simple; The Golden Shoe Award-spray paint an old sneaker gold, and let the classroom or grade that has the most walkers/bikers, display the award for the day/week. Police and Fire Departments have also supported Walk to School Day

In Batavia, the Fire Department escorted students and parents to school from a near-by park. 

Students bussed to school?

Try gathering at a park or public place close to the school and walking together as a group to school.  Once students arrive, they can participate in an obstacle course or run laps or walk around the school field.
